Home Remedy for Heartburn and Indigestion

Many have come to the conclusion that avoidance of the medical system for problems that can be otherwise dealt with using natural remedies that are from the earth, which is where we are said to come from. So a home remedy for heartburn and indigestion is just another set of gifts given to us from our ancestors.

It’s important to understand that which we refer to as heartburn and indigestion (acid reflux), or GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease). Our heart is not burning, rather what is experienced is discomfort felt in the digestive pathway between the esophagus and the stomach.

The popular understanding is that acid reflux is caused by too much acid in the stomach. In reality, what is happening is we are difficient in stomach acid (not enough acid). That’s why when sufferers take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, the issue subsides. Everyone knows that vinegar is acidic and that’s why it seems to work. This is not a permenant fix, only temporary.

To delve a little deeper, the stomach lining is designed to handle the hydrochloric acid. The esophogus on the other is not designed that way and whenever acid rises from your stomach into your esophagus and throat, you call it acid reflux, heartburn and indigestion.

In order to digest food, the acid in the stomach should be no lower than 1.4 on the PH scale. When the acid is too high, digestion cannot take place properly, however acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion can.

There is a valve (sphincter) at the top of the stomach that should be closed when not swallowing to prevent acid from the stomach to back up into the esophagus, and thus creating the condition. In order for that valve to operate correctly requires the proper nutrition to maintain that process.

Referenced earlier was the term hydrochloric acid. Sufficient salt intake is required for the production of hydrochloric acid, which breaks down food to be passed on to the next stage of digestion. Many people are on low sodium diets that interfere with the production acid.

Doctors ignore this and instead prescribe drugs like Prilosec, Zantac, and other proton pump inhibitors that themselves have their own side effects. You should also know the annual revenue for this type medication

Nexium, was the top-selling of all drugs, earning nearly $6 billion in 2012, according to IMS Health, which tracks drug sales and marketing.

It’s also important to say something about the role that particular foods play in this scenario. Some people just can’t eat some foods because their gut is irritated by the particular food, so it is important to identify those foods that your system can’t handle.

About 30 or so years ago, I could not eat anything that contained red gravy. I avoided anything containing red gravy. After that time however, I began to focus on nutrition and noticed that I can eat anything with red gravy now and not even think about it anymore.

This unfortunate condition can be indistinguishable from what might be a heart attack, so avoiding foods that you like but don’t seem to like you is wise. Pay attention to what you eat and how certain foods make you feel.
